Investors confident supplies will be sufficient for the cold winter months

Natural-gas prices extended their retreat from a recent eight-month high on Friday as some investors bet gas storage will be sufficient for the high-demand winter months.

Futures for November delivery ended 0.7% lower at $3.1430 a million British thermal units on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices have fallen two straight sessions after closing Wednesday at $3.23/mmBtu, the highest settlement value since Jan. 29.
