Citigroup’s departing chief financial officer gave an upbeat update on the bank’s performance

John Gerspach, who is set to retire next March, gave a bullish update the company’s business Wednesday. Shares were up 2% by midday even as competitors retreated. Still, questions remain around the bank’s new growth strategy which will be up to others to execute.
