WASHINGTON—President Trump said Monday he wants the FBI to conduct a “comprehensive” investigation into sexual-assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Kavanaugh, but also said the probe should have limits and be done quickly.

Mr. Trump said he is open to guidance from the senators who requested the investigation, suggesting that Senate leaders wanted specific limits on the inquiry. The president said he had given instructions to the FBI “per what I feel the Senate wants.”
